Katrina Martin (pronouns: she/her/hers) completed her Master’s in Nursing at the University of Manitoba with a research focus looking at Filipino youth’s experiences and perceptions of sexuality. She has also done research regarding the influence of culture on immigrant and refugee youth’s perceptions of sexuality.

Katrina has volunteered at the Sexuality Education Resource Centre (SERC), helping to facilitate sexuality workshops with immigrant and refugee youth, and as a teen clinic peer educator for an inner city school.

She currently works at Mount Carmel Clinic as a teen clinic nurse and is involved in the quality initiative and nursing policy committees at this organization.

Through her professional and personal experience, Katrina has learned about the importance of sexuality education that goes beyond ‘sex’ only. Katrina believes that the concepts of self-love, consent and healthy relationships should serve as the foundation of sexuality education. Through her work she hopes that sexuality becomes a topic that is normalized and openly embraced by cultural minorities.
